Stefano Scodanibbio (1956-2012) schrieb herausragende Musik für Kontrabass. Auf Alisei (Trade Winds) sind Kompositionen für Bass solo, zwei Bässe und Bassensemble zu hören. Darunter auch die weltweit erste Aufnahme von Ottetto, einem oft atemberaubenden Kompendium aller von ihm zu Lebzeiten entwickelten Spieltechniken. „Es ist sein großer geistiger Nachlass“, sagt Daniele Roccato, neben Scodanibbio Mitbegründer des Ludus Gravis Bassensembles. Als Solokünstler stellt sich Roccato den Herausforderungen von Due pezzi brillanti, einem Stück das die Virtuosität an die Grenzen des Möglichen führt, und lässt im Titelstück Alisei „den Bass in seiner ihm eigenen Stimme singen“.

Daniele Roccato
is a double bass soloist and composer. As a soloist, he has performed at many of the world’s most renowned festivals and concert halls, often presenting his own compositions. Gavin Bryars, Julio Estrada, Fabio Cifariello Ciardi, Ivan Fedele, Sofia Gubaidulina, Hans Werner Henze, Filippo Perocco, Terry Riley, Nicola Sani, Stefano Scodanibbio, wrote for and worked with him. Gubaidulina declared: “his interpretation has totally shocked me. I’ve never heard a double bass sounding in this way” - RAI RadioTre).
Together with Scodanibbio he created “Ludus Gravis”, an ensemble of double basses where he is the soloist and director. With writer, playwright and actor Vitaliano Trevisan he realised the theatrical works Solo et Pensoso, Time Works, Note sui Sillabari, Madre con Cuscino, Campo Marzo 9/10, Burroughs in Cage, Good Friday Night, Il Ponte, where he has been involved both as a composer and a performer. For dancer and coreographer Virgilio Sieni he wrote the music of Agorà Tutti, Vangelo secondo Matteo (produced by La Biennale di Venezia), CORPUS_Deposizioni e Visitazioni, Vita_Nova, DOLCE VITA_Archeologia della Passione, (produced by RomaEuropa Festival), Le Sacre - Preludio (produced by Teatro Comunale di Bologna), Cantico dei Cantici, Preludi/Cominciamenti. Within avant-garde theatre he wrote the music for NuvoleCasa and Monsieur Teste produced by Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio (Chiara Guidi) and for LUS, written four hands with Luigi Ceccarelli, produced by Teatro delle Albe (Ermanna Montanari, Marco Martinelli. Produced by ERT Emilia Romagna Teatro) for which he received the nomination to the UBU Prize 2015 as a composer. In the field of extemporary creation and improvisation he realized concerts and albums with Tarek Atoui, Bruno Chevillon, Mark Dresser, Paolo Damiani, Marc Ducret, Vinko Globokar, Garth Knox, Joëlle Léandre, Ciro Longobardi, Elio Martusciello, Sabina Mayer, Thollem McDonas, Butch Morris, Fabrizio Ottaviucci, Barre Phillips, Dominique Pifarély, Michele Rabbia, Terry Riley and many others. He often improvise also with dancers, actors, writers, poets, painters (for ex. Jim Dine, one of the founders of Pop Art movement) Some of his many transcriptions are forthcoming for Sikorski, Schott and Salabert editions. He brought the double bass as a solo instrument into pop music with trio projects together with Lucio Dalla and Roberto Vecchioni. Professor of double bass at the Conservatory of “Santa Cecilia” in Rome, he was invited to hold seminars at Conservatoire National Supérieur (Paris), Universitat der Kunste (Berlin), San Francisco State University, Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo), Ca’ Foscari University (Venice), Royal Danish Academy of Music (Copenhagen), UNAMM (Mexico City), UNEAC (Havana). He recorded for ECM, Wergo, Sony. Several of his concerts were broadcast by Rai RadioTre and Sky ARTE.
He was “2017 Artist in Residence” for the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese of L’Aquila.
