Raymond Lewenthal (1923–1988) gehört seit langem zum Geheimtipp der Freunde von pianistischer Pyrotechnik und spätromantischen Klavierherausforderungen mit Werken von Franz Liszt, Anton Rubinstein, Franz Xaver Scharwenka, Adolf von Henselt und besonders von Charles-Valentin Alkan. Viele dieser zwischen 1965 und 1970 entstandenen Einspielungen sind gesuchte Raritäten.
