Info for For All We Know

After the two critically acclaimed and award-winning albums ‘Longing’ and ‘What’s it all about?’, the jazz quartet Ellas Kapell are releasing their third album ‘For all we know’. With innovative arrangements, which could almost be considered original compositions, the group continues to interpret traditional music from the world of jazz. This time they are focusing on creating a musical atmosphere that allows you to both rest in the familiar as well as discover the unknown.

The theme for the album is sorrow, yet with glimpses of something more. It is through the cracks that the light flows in and with their music, Ellas Kapell wants to echo those moments when the darkness shifts and despair turns to hope.

While many have interpreted the classic jazz compositions of our time, few have done it in such innovative and creative ways as Ellas Kapell, if critics and audiences are to be believed. The four members met in 2016 and have since released three (soon) albums, won the Golden Album Reader’s Choice Award (JAZZ/Orkesterjournalen), been named the Vocal Jazz of the Year by Lira Music Magazine, as well as have been streamed over 4 million times.

Lovisa Jennervall
It was obvious from an early age that Lovisa Jennervall would devote her life to music. Growing up in Härnösand was mainly characterised by all the musical contexts, partly within the family but also in the form of choirs, orchestras and private instrument lessons. The teenage years that followed in Gothenburg were spent in music classes, both at secondary school and high school. Jazz then took on an increasingly important role in her musical life when she studied at Liljeholmen and Lunnevad folk high schools between 2011 and 2013. There, her love of jazz singing found room to grow.

Spring 2015 was spent in one of the capitals of jazz: New York. There, Lovisa had the opportunity to play with exceptional musicians, take lessons, attend concerts and jam until late at night. Her love for jazz grew and she moved back to Sweden with a new drive and a clearer direction in her music making. The Lovisa Jennervall Quartet was formed in Gothenburg shortly after her return. The modern jazz quartet quickly got gigs around Sweden where they showed their unique ability to mix musical precision and skill with a fantastic sensitivity and presence. In September 2017, Lovisa and LJQ released their first album "Come Closer", which the music magazine Lira described as "a powerful little mini-album".

In autumn 2016, Lovisa started studying jazz at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. During her first year at KMH she started a unique wind project under the name Lovisa Jennervall Wind Ensemble. She writes and arranges the music for this exciting combination of five wind instruments and vocals, and the concerts have been well attended, to say the least. In early 2018, LJWE released its first album "May Sessions", which can be heard on various digital platforms.

Lovisa also has a great fondness for traditional swing. Her playful scat solos and equilibristic excursions are reminiscent of predecessors such as Alice Babs and Ella Fitzgerald. In the Ellas Kapell project, she gets the chance to really go all out as she and her three fellow musicians delve into the vast treasure trove that is 'The American Songbook'. In 2019 they released their debut album "Longing" and in 2021 they released the follow-up "What's It All About?". Both discs were critically acclaimed and Lira Musikmagasin named Ellas Kapell as Vocal Jazz of the Year 2021.
