Info for Alexander von Zemlinsky Maiblumen blühten überall, Two Pieces for String Quintet, Cello sonata

A pianist and composer, Zemlinsky s primary musical influence was Johannes Brahms. The centerpiece of this program is Maiblumen blühten überall, a short (possibly unfinished) masterpiece of chamber music for soprano and string sextet. The text is based on the first twenty lines of a morbid, mystical poem by Richard Dehmel. We owe the resurrection of these youthful scores by Zemlinsky to the scholarship of musicologist Antony Beaumont.

Performers include the Zemlinsky Quartet, the Prazák Quartet, soprano Lucie Hájková and pianist Jaromír Klepác.
