One of Europe's many fine big bands is The Stockholm Jazz Orchestra which was formed over 30 years ago and has released 14 albums. In this concert they bring a big band dynamic to music either by or associated with John Coltrane in some really creative arrangements.

On this stunning live recording, the band tackles the momentous legacy of saxophonist John Coltrane, performing some of the legendary artist's most beloved standards and originals.

The Stockholm Jazz Orchestra
has played modern swinging big band jazz in the tradition for 35 years. The band has toured Argentina, Uruguay, South Africa, USA, England, Switzerland, Ireland , Spain and Scandinavia and played festivals and clubs like the Village Vanguard (NYC), Ronnie Scott’s (London UK), Jamboree (Barcelona)Pori Jazz Festival (Finland), Copenhagen Jazz Festival (Denmark) among other venues. In the fall of 2011 the band opened the big cultural festival de Cervantino in Mexico. App. 10 000 people listened to the band’s three concerts in Mexico.

In the summer of 2015 the band toured in South-Africa for the second time, playing “The Orbit” in Johannesburg, “The NYJF” in Grahamstown and at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town. Sold out places and very enthusiastic audiences made the concerts a thrill. The SJO also visited the township of Delfth to work with their youth big band.

Seventeen CDs, one LP and a large number of radio shows in Sweden is also on the CV. The guest list includes: Bob Mintzer, Bob Brookmeyer, Bob Florence, Jim McNeely, Mel Lewis, Hermeto Pasqual, Susana Rinaldi, Walter Rios, Juan-Jose Mosalini, Joe Lovano, Dick Oatts, Gary Smulyan, Pete King, Stan Tracey,Kenny Werner, Monica Zetterlund, Norma Winstone, Steve Gray, Jens Winther among others.
