Gemeinhin bekannt als the Standards trio, hat die Gruppe viele herausragende Alben veröffentlicht. Und After The Fall muss als eines ihrer besten gelten. Ich war verblüfft zu hören, wie gut die Musik funktionierte, bemerkt Keith Jarrett in seinen Notizen. Für mich ist es nicht bloß ein historisches Dokument, sondern ein wirklich grandioses Konzert.
Diese Performance – in Newark, New Jersey im November 1998 – markierte Jarretts Rückkehr ins Konzertleben nach zwei Jahren Auszeit. Begleitet von seinen Improvisations-Partnern Gary Peacock und Jack DeJohnette, gleitet und segelt er von Klassiker zu Klassiker des Great American Songbook, mit Stücken wie The Masquerade Is Over, Autumn Leaves, When I Fall In Love und I’ll See You Again. Darunter auch waghalsige Interpretationen so heiliger Bebop-Werke wie Charlie Parkers Scrapple From The Apple, Bud Powells Bouncin With Bud und Sonny Rollins Doxy.
