Info zu In June
In June is rooted in Jazz, melancholic folk songs, and classical art songs. The result of this synthesis, however, is far from what you'd expect it to be. From these elements, Fama M’Boup develops her very own language of a cappella music for four voices, now and then applying synthesizers or drums to finish it. in June finds expression through vocal music that has little to do with the things we think we know about this somewhat dusty genre. Neoclassical meets electronic music, spoken word meets Rilke and brutal honesty. You can also recognize structures of contemporary pop songs – ranging from feather-light and playful ("How to Kiss") to a soaring sea of roaring, agitated emotions ("Emotionsea").

Fama M’Boup
is a vocalist, composer and performer from Berlin.
Descending from a Senegalese family of musicians and storytellers, she curiously searches for ways to tell the stories of people’s inner landscapes in different projects.
With her duo Olicía, she creates looped layers of sounds, as she does in her solo loop project. Together with guitarist Christian Stoltz, she plays own compositions and arrangements of known classics under the name cocotá. Her newest band in June sneaks under your skin with four voices, synths and drums and lets you observe the composer’s inner world.
M’Boup studied in Dresden, Copenhagen and Berlin and shared the stage with Kat Frankie and Sophie Hunger. Together with friend and colleague Anna-Lucia Rupp, she owns the Dresden-based label o-cetera.
In 2022, Olicía’s debut album Liquid Lines as well as in June’s concert with “Young Euro Classics” were nominated for the German Jazz Award.
She lives and teaches in Berlin.
