“Crime Jazz”, “Jazz for a new generation” & “slow-burn yearning widescreen chamber pop” . There are many ways trying to describe the unique sound of reed player Thomas Backman's band.

Backman, one of Swedens most reputable reed players for 15 years, formed a band of his own in 2016. The special blend of styles and dynamic arrangements made the debut album “Did You Have a Good Day, David?” (2018) a critically acclaimed success. The band followed up the release with concerts at important venues such as Pizza Express in London and Rochester Jazz Festival & Nublu in the US.

With the feature of shoegaze, hiphop, orchestral pop and free jazz as well as the words of Emily Dickinson the essence of Backman's music is recognizable but developed. ​

Thomas Backman
isn’t a newcomer to the Swedish audiences. For 15 years he has been working as a bandmember in reputable groups such as Klabbes Bank, paavo and as a sideman to Sarah & Georg Riedel and Maia Hirasawa to name a few. In 2016 Thomas finally put together a group of his favourite musicians to form a band of his own. The members are award winning, well-known Swedish musicians. They have performed and recorded with artists such as Django Bates, Uri Caine, Filip Jers & Loney. After touring in Sweden 2017 the band went to Studio Dubious in Stockholm to record ‘Did You Have A Good Day, David?’.
