Es war Liebe auf den ersten Blick, als Mathilde Vialle und Thibaut Roussel zum ersten Mal auf eine englische Bassgambe und eine venezianische Erzlaute trafen, die im Pariser Musikmuseum aufbewahrt werden. Mit einem behutsam ausgewählten Programm englischer Musik aus der zweiten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts kommen sie nun in dieser Aufnahme zu neuem Glanz. Zu den außergewöhnlichen Klängen der beiden historischen Instrumente gesellen sich der Nachbau eines barocken Virginals, gespielt von Ronan Khalil, und der Tenor von Zachary Wilder.

Mathilde Vialle
began playing the viola da gamba at the age of 8 at the Bordeaux Conservatory of Music in Paul Rousseau's class. After working for two years with Matthieu Lusson at the Poitiers Conservatory of Music, where she earned her DEM (Diploma of Musical Studies), she joined the Lyon Conservatory of Music in Marianne Muller's class. She continued her studies with Philippe Pierlot and Mieneke Van der Velden at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, where she earned a Master's degree with distinction. During her studies, she also benefited from the guidance of Wieland Kuijken. She performs with various ensembles such as the Correspondances ensemble (Sébastien Daucé), Ricercar Consort (Philippe Pierlot), Le Poème Harmonique (Vincent Dumestre), La Main Harmonique (Frédéric Bétous), Les Inventions (Patrick Ayrton), Apotheosis (Korneel Bernolet), La Risonanza (Fabio Bonizzoni), Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Ton Koopman), and the Les Timbres ensemble and the Artifices ensemble (Alice Julien-Laferrière).

She founded the Duo Coloquintes with violinist Alice Julien-Laferrière. The duo's first CD was released in May 2016, featuring transcriptions of keyboard pieces by J.J. Froberger, for the Son an Ero label. A second album, this time dedicated to Louis Couperin, was released in early 2020 for the Seulétoile label. This album was critically acclaimed and awarded a Diapason d'Or.

She also devotes herself to the repertoire for two viols da gamba with violist Myriam Rignol. They recorded an album entitled "à deux violes esgales" (For Two Equal Viols), released in 2021 for the Château de Versailles Spectacles label. In September 2019, Mathilde Vialle recorded François Couperin's Pièces de viole avec la basse chiffrée (Pieces for viols with figured bass), released in 2021 for the Château de Versailles label and awarded a "Choc" by Classica magazine.

A winner of international competitions, Mathilde received third prize at the 4th International Early Music Competition in Schärding-Brunnenthal (Austria) in 2010; third prize and the Audience Award at the 6th International Telemann Competition in Magdeburg (Germany) in 2011; first prize at the 4th International Francesco Maria Ruspoli Competition in Vignanello (Italy) in 2012; and second prize at the 5th International Bach-Abel Viola Competition in Köthen (Germany).

Since September 2023, she has been a guest teacher at the Aliénor Center.

Zachary Wilder
An exemplary interpreter of 17th and 18th-century repertoires, American tenor Zachary Wilder collaborates with ensembles such as Pygmalion, Les Arts Florissants, L'Arpeggiata, Les Talens Lyriques, Le Concert d'Astrée, the Boston Early Music Festival, Bach Collegium Japan, the Handel & Haydn Society and the Nederlandse Bachvereniging. Beyond the confines of early music, his collaborations with symphony orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra allow him to tackle later repertoires such as Vaughan-Williams' On Wenlock Edge and Britten's Nocturne (Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra), Frank Zappa's 200 Motels (Musica Festival in Strasbourg; Paris Philharmonie), or The Tale of Genji (Tokyo's Kabukiza Theater).

Recent seasons have been punctuated by significant undertakings, including the expansive Monteverdi 450 tour (John Eliot Gardiner), Händel's Radamisto (Il Pomo d'Oro conducted by Francesco Corti), and Purcell's The Fairy Queen (Drottningholm Opera). Zachary Wilder interpreted the role of Erinda in the revival of Sartorio's Orfeo at the Opéra de Montpellier (conducted by Philippe Jaroussky), Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro in Boston (Raphaël Pichon), and Agenore in Il re pastore at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Christina Pluhar).

He has recorded for Ricercar, CPO, Soli Deo Gloria, Glossa, Atma, Aparté and harmonia mundi, with the direction of William Christie, John Eliot Gardiner, Masaaki Suzuki, Christophe Rousset, and Raphaël Pichon. His special partnership with Ensemble I Gemelli has yielded recordings of Monteverdi's L’Orfeo (Naïve) and Il ritorno d'Ulisse (Gemelli Factory), alongside A Room of Mirrors (Gemelli Factory).
