Info zu Rameau: Concerts en Sextuor

As is well known, the Six Concerts de Monsieur Rameau are reworkings by anonymous hand of the Pièces de Clavecin en Concerts of the Dijonese published in 1741. In fact, they are not composed in six parts either: the original material is divided between three violins, a taille and the ...

Jeune Orchestre Rameau
Bruno Procopio, conductor

The Rameau Youth Orchestra
welcomes young instrumentalists coming from top music conservatories from around the world as well professional musicians already holding posts with symphonic ensembles wishing to develop their skill sets for French repertoire on historical instruments. The academy of the Rameau Youth Orchestra is staffed by both French and international professional musicians with a strong background in French music.

The Rameau Youth Orchestra is partnered with the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris (CRR de Paris), the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional du Grand Avignon and the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional d’Aix en Provence.

The Rameau Youth Orchestra has the goal of replicating the original disposition of the Académie Royale de Musique during Rameau’s time. This means reuniting a group of approximately 50 instrumentalists in order to attain the most faithful reconstitution possible of this soundscape.

Much of Rameau’s music has yet to be discovered; several of his operas are still unpublished. In 1996, Sylvie Bouissou, a privileged collaborator of the JOR, launched the complete edition of the composer’s works as the Jean-Philippe Rameau • Opera omnia (worldwide distribution via Bärenreiter) and thus made accessible a large swath of repertoire. Our project is inscribed in this vast operation of the rediscovery of Rameau’s oeuvre. To solidify our contribution, the team at Opera Omnia are currently preparing editions of several still unpublished works specially chosen for the Rameau Youth Orchestra.

A recording will be made by the team of the recording label Paraty and will be distributed by PIAS-Harmonia Mundi on digital platforms. This album, a world-premiere recorded interpretation of several unedited works of Rameau, will also be a formidable tool for the career development of these artists. The production process of this album will allow young musicians to better understand the challenges of the recording world.

The Rameau Youth Orchestra also aims to be a networking platform, hence the creation of a Networking Space between the participants, the specialized press and musicologists whose research centers around French repertoire.

All of the activities of the academy, the recording and the concerts will be filmed by Classiquenews, our official media channel.

Bruno Procopio
Following his studies at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP) with Pierre Hantaï and Christophe Rousset, conductor and harpsichordist Bruno Procopio has pursued a varied and active international career. His activities as music director, soloist, and chamber musician have been enriched by his unusual talent for cultural entrepreneurship. In 2007 he founded the record label Paraty Productions – distributed worldwide by Harmonia Mundi – whose business model was recently praised in a feature article by Le Monde (“L’économie baroque du disque de classique”, 3 March 2016).

Bruno Procopio works in close collaboration with the Versailles Baroque Music Center (CMBV) to bring French Baroque repertoire to major South American opera houses and orchestras, with whom he has a long-standing special relationship. A regular guest conductor of the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, Bruno Procopio recorded the album “Rameau in Caracas” which received multiple distinctions including Classica Magazine’s “Choc” Award and 5 stars from Diapason Magazine. The recording was selected as Album of the Week by both Le Figaro in France and Classic FM in the U.K.

Prestigious orchestras such as the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB), the Manaus Opera Orchestra of Brazil, the Liège Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, “Les Siècles” Orchestra and Chorus, the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and numerous other institutions have benefited from his expertise.

Always enthusiastic to share his knowledge, Procopio has given masterclasses in universities across Latin America including Rio de Janeiro’s UNIRIO, Simón Bolívar University in Caracas, and Chile’s Catholic University. He was also a guest at Beijing’s Central Conservatory, and regularly teaches harpsichord at the Accademia Villa Bossi in Italy.
