Info zu Lazybody

Lazybody again sees Annie team up with producer and Slow Weather partner Chris McCrory, 11 sparse songs of love, despair and all emotions in between.

Scottish singer-songwriter Annie Booth returns with her sophomore album ‘Lazybody’. Recorded over the course of several months at studios Chem19 and Green Door, the 11-track record takes the alt-folk artist’s compositions to ambitious new heights, with production by frequent collaborator and acclaimed producer Chris McCrory.

Though ten of the eleven songs were written long before the pandemic, they unwittingly deal with isolation and inertia and losing direction. Over the course of the record, these conditions are tempered with love and rekindling fire as well as a quiet acceptance of what cannot be controlled.

With acoustic guitar and piano at its core, the record is layered with a variety of lush arrangement, moving from the sinister to the beautiful, from calm to restless. The vocals echo these shifts, at times adorned with stacked harmonies and at others left raw and vulnerable.

"Laxybody is such a compelling and intensely beautiful listen, it seems in terms of creativity it has been anything but a fallow year for Annie and I’m gutted I missed the album launch gig in the Glad Cafe, I’m convinced hearing these songs in a live environment would just have in creased the power and emotion of this extraordinary collection of songs."

Annie Booth
is an Edinburgh-based singer, songwriter and instrumentalist. With a keen ear for melody and movingly bittersweet compositions, she is a unique and fiercely emotive voice in the Scottish music scene, her songs woven with a subtle but exciting patchwork of styles and sounds.

Writing stories and poems from a young age, Booth moved to Edinburgh in 2013 for university – it was there she met her long-time friends and current band members. In 2015 she also joined prolific dark-folk rockers Mt. Doubt after being approached by frontman Leo Bargery, following a turn on their single ‘Soak’; this led to appearances at festivals such as T in the Park and Belladrum.

Labels Last Night From Glasgow and Scottish Fiction collaborated on releasing Annie’s affecting debut album ‘An Unforgiving Light‘ in late 2017 to much critical acclaim. The rock, folk and pop-inflected record was lauded as Roddy Hart’s Record of Note (BBC Radio Scotland), was featured in Vic Galloway’s Best Albums of 2017 and received praise from and frequent rotation by Jim Gellatly and Amazing Radio.

2018 saw her perform at the BBC’s much-loved Quay Sessions, as well as appearing at a number of festivals including XpoNorth, Celtic Connections, Tenement Trail and Kelburn’s Garden Party (The Skinny Stage). Booth and her band were regulars on the Scottish gig circuit, opening for folk heroes such as King Creosote, Ciaran Lavery and Blue Rose Code.

Adopting a more introspective and atmospheric approach, Annie’s new EP ‘Spectral‘ benefited from the production know-how of Chris McCrory (Catholic Action, Siobhan Wilson), resulting in an understated yet moving collection of four creepingly melancholic tracks. Lead single ‘Magic 8’ was championed by the likes of the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, The Skinny and The List, alongside plays from Roddy Hart and Nicola Meighan; Booth subsequently appeared for a live session on the BBC’s Janice Forsyth Show. The EP received praise from an array of local and national press alike.
