Nach einer Periode völliger Entwurzelung, die durch einen Umzug in eine neue Stadt und eine traumatische Trennung ausgelöst wurde, brauchte Yoshika eine Zeit der erholsamen Isolation, um wieder zu kreativer und persönlicher Gesundheit zurückzufinden. Diese Traurigkeit und den Schmerz, die Akzeptanz und die langsam aufkeimende Hoffnung ist auf „On The Wing“ kanalisiert. “This album is a bit of a shrine I suppose to all of the pivotal experiences that shaped me during my twenties and it’s also, I feel, a tentative lean towards hopefulness for the future”, erzählt Colwell. “It was a challenge to put all of the things I was scared to say into these songs, to finally let them out of my head without shying away from the ugly or unpalatable emotions, but it felt like the only thing to do.”

Yoshika Colwell
is a singer-songwriter based deep in the Kent countryside, an appropriate setting for her brand of bucolic folk-inflected songs which are often deeply personal and concerned with attempting to understand the self & others, time, nature and mortality. A life-long Joni Mitchell fan she also takes inspiration from a wide mix of artists inc. Gillian Welch to Linda Perhacs, John Prine to Talk Talk. 2023 included shows with Bear’s Den and Gotts Street Park. Forthcoming debut EP ’There’s A Time’ is released on May 17th on Blue Flowers.
