Der 1993 in Paris geborene Komponist und Pianist Nicolas Worms schafft mit seiner Musik einen Raum, in dem widersprüchliche Zeiten und Orte konvergieren. Er entwickelte das Konzept der „Musik-Fiktion“, wie etwa in der Reihe FLOT, die 2024 bei Alpha Classics erschienen ist.

Dieses neue Album entstand aus dem „einfachen und zugleich verwirrenden Bedürfnis, das Unbekannte in mir selbst heraufzubeschwören. Was kann ich aus meinem Erbe und meinen Tasteninstrumenten schöpfen?“, sagt Worms. Mit vier Instrumenten – dem Konzertflügel, dem elektrischen Piano CP-70, dem analogen Synthesizer Prophet-V und einem modularen Synthesizersystem – begibt er sich auf eine umfassende klangliche Spurensuche und nutzt seine Instrumente als „Beweisstücke“.

L’Enquête gliedert sich in vier Teile und eine Coda. Einige Stücke sind im Stil einer Toccata oder eines Nocturnes komponiert. Andere sind improvisiert, melodischer angelegt, wieder andere bewegen sich im Bereich des Abstrakten. Wie bei jeder Ermittlung geht es darum, die Perspektive zu wechseln, die eigenen Schritte zurückzuverfolgen und sich von unerwarteten Entdeckungen überraschen zu lassen.

Nicolas Worms
born in Paris in 1993, enrolled at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in 2010. There, he was awarded four first prizes with the unanimous distinction of ‘Très Bien’ in harmony (class of Cyrille Lehn), counterpoint (class of Pierre Pincemaille), fugue (class of Thierry Escaich) and analysis (Michaël Levinas’s class). He is now continuing his studies in piano improvisation there with Jean-François Zygel.

With a keen interest in all forms of artistic and musical expression, he has also been exploring jazz and has been a member of the rock band Moonsters for several years, with whom he has performed in numerous concerts and made several recordings. His interest in promoting the arts and broadening the audience for so-called ‘classical’ music, as well as his love of improvisation, also led him to join the association Les Concerts de Poche, where he has been leading workshops as an improvisational pianist since early 2012. He regularly improvises piano accompaniment to silent films at the Cinémathèque Française, the Forum des Images and the Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé Foundation…

As a composer, Nicolas Worms has received commissions from the Opéra National de Paris (the premiere of the ballet Ça manque d’amour in June 2015 at the Amphithéâtre Bastille), the Théâtre du Châtelet (composing the 3rd act of the musical Pourquoi j’ai mangé mon père, which premiered on 18 May 2013), as well as from the Orchestre de la Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, which premiered his symphonic poem Visions de Nuit on 30 November 2013. Since 2014, he has been assistant conductor of the same orchestra. Several of his works have been broadcast on France Musique, performed by the harpsichordist and pianist Jean Rondeau. Alongside his work as a composer, his role as an arranger leads him to collaborate regularly with institutions such as the Orchestre Français des Jeunes, the Debussy Quartet and the Rouen Opera, as well as with artists including Yael Naim, Alex Beaupain, Tahiti Boy and the Palmtree Family…
