Vincent Segal
is a cellist based in Paris. After classical studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon, he delved into a wide variety of styles such as jazz, rock, traditional music, and folk. In 1999, he formed the duo Bumcello alongside Cyril Atef, with whom he recorded 6 albums. In 2006, Bumcello won a Victoire de la Musique in the Dance/Electro category.
Vincent Segal has played and recorded with numerous artists including Blackalicious, Nana Vasconcelos, Cesaria Evora, -M-, Sting, Elvis Costello, Alexandre Desplat, Marianne Faithfull, and even collaborated with Oxmo Puccino on acoustic tours. In 2009, he recorded the duo album "Chamber Music" with kora player Ballaké Sissoko, which won the Victoire du Jazz in 2010. It was also named among the top 10 albums of the year by Le Monde, NPR, The Guardian, and The Wall Street Journal.
Piers Faccini
A soulful and expressive singer/songwriter whose music fuses folk and West African textures, Piers Faccini was born in England to Anglo-Italian parents, and moved with his family to France when he was five years old. Faccini attended art college in Paris before making a name for himself on the London music scene with the group Charley Marlowe. While that band earned a passionate following on London’s acoustic music circuit for their unique blend of poetry and music, Faccini left in 2001 to write and perform on his own.
ALA.NI
British-born, Paris-based artist ALA.NI U.S. has announced that her debut album YOU & I will see release in the U.S. through Missing Piece Records, distributed via Caroline in Spring 2017. With all songs written & produced by ALA.NI, the album was recorded in London at Owl Studios (owned by Sade’s Andrew Hale) and Studio 13 (owned by Damon Albarn which makes sense as Ala.ni did backing vocals for Blur earlier in her career and Albarn has become a trusted mentor). The album saw rapturous response when it came out in Europe and the UK earlier in 2016. For those attending the annual APAP Conference in NYC, she will make her debut performing as part of the Summerstage/Twilight Concerts summer preview showcase on January 5th at the Highline Ballroom alongside BADBADNOTGOOD, Dayme Arocena and Lady Wray. ALA.NI stopped many people dead in their tracks when she appeared on Later...with Jools Holland late last year, performing ‘Cherry Blossom’ with a Disney-gone-noir vocal, as compulsively anachronistic as the sensibility of the track itself. ALA.NI arrived with a voice that seems to take in the cadences of musical history, and an idiosyncratic creative approach to conveying her music, including spooky, self-produced Super 8 videos, 19th century photo techniques for album packaging and release formats that include wax cylinder recordings and even a miniature music box. Her vocal stylings have been compared to Billie Holiday, Minnie Ripperton, Lena Horne, Judy Garland or Julee Cruise, but this is no nostalgia trip and to make these simple comparisons would be, as Glamour noted “a disservice because the thing about this West London-born singer is that she is totally unique.”
Lucas Santtana
is a Brazilian singer, songwriter and music producer originally from Salvador-Bahia, Brazil.
His songs bring the references of the Brazilian popular song, but his arrangements transform the songs into sound architectures, with full of layers of sounds and textures.
His lyrics bring many literary, poetic and cinematic references. They speak both of social issues and of existences issues, man’s relationship with technology, biosphere, within other topics.
Another striking feature of his work is the crossover between musical universes. There is no clear line between musical genres, past and future, acoustic and electric, tradition and avant-garde.
His music has the influence of pop music, Jamaican, African, Latin, electronic, classical, experimental, black American, and of course, Brazilian popular music.
Lucas has 9 recorded solo albums and several soundtracks for film and theater.
His album "Sem Nostalgia" was voted the best foreign album of 2011 by the newspaper Libération (France). The album also received 5 stars from Rolling Stone (U.S.A) and was considered by the magazine Bravo (Brazil) as one of the 10 most important albums to understand Brazilian music in the 21st century.
His album "O deus que devasta também cura" entered the list of best albums of the year 2012 in the magazine Les Inrockuptibles (France), alongside names like Jack White and Cat Power.
In 2017 he released the album "Modo Avião", creating a new musical genre called audio film. This album was accompanied by a book and joined music, cinema, dramaturgy, literature and comics, being presented to the public in parks and museums, in what Lucas called the Modo Avião Sound Experience.
In 2019 Lucas Santtana released his eighth studio album, "The sky is old for a long time", an album with political and loving songs against fascism in Brazil. The album surpassed the mark of 10 million plays on music platforms and the single My first love over 1 million views on YouTube.
In January 2023 Lucas Santtana released his ninth album, called The Paradise, which brings an affective look on the planet Earth. The album entered the list of the best albums of the year by the magazine Télérama (France) and APCA (Brazil).
Vincent Peirani
Like all popular music, jazz is associated with strong personalities. International recognition of accordionist Vincent Peirani rests on that essential, fundamental quality. His musical charisma, his very distinctive creative skills, his unique approach to his art – all of which are the fruit of a very open, unblinkered attitude – strike the listener immediately.
After brilliant studies in classical music (many international awards), his dive into the world of jazz received the seal of success from the start and was crowned at the Victoires du Jazz in 2014 (“Revelation”) and 2015 (“Artist of the Year”). Vincent Peirani has the ability to turn everything he touches into gold: in jazz, of course (his own projects, but also collaborations with Daniel Humair, Michel Portal, and others), but also in chanson (Sanseverino, Les Yeux Noirs), film music (composer for Mathieu Almaric’s Barbara in 2017), and so on. Whatever the style, the public follows: in his performances, he creates a balance between the relatively straightforward (inventive revivals of well-known themes) and a blessed unexpectedness, with art music and popular music very close to each other, a sign of great artistry.
The man who, ten years ago, completely renewed the language of the accordion (and continues to do so) has become a major artist, whose uninhibited, cosmopolitan view of music and sense of instrumental combination and colour, enable him to bring that rare and precious magical touch to everything he does.
Emile Parisien
A key figure in creative and inspired french jazz, Émile Parisien has travelled through the early part of this century in a singular way: a budding young musician from Marciac at the turn of the millennium, the alto and soprano saxophonist has worked hard to explore tradition and history while going far beyond them. This evolution owes much to the curiosity of Émile Parisien, whose profile as a rising jazz star has gradually been refined to reveal a complex artist with a sharp mind.
From his collaborations with Daniel Humair, Vincent Peirani, Joachim Kühn and Michel Portal to his innovations with Jeff Mills and his act quartet, Émile Parisien has established himself in France and on a European scale as a catalyst for new ideas, even on the fringes of established territories (most recently in the XXXX project, alongside Wollny, Lefebvre and Lillinger, also with act).
His work is a line drawn between the two poles of a music in movement which finds, in the stylistic explosion and the exaltation of the 2020s, an obvious resonance box: within a reality with increasingly blurred aesthetic boundaries, the compass matters less than intuition.
This is the philosophy behind Émile Parisien’s new sextet, Louise, scheduled for 2021, alongside Frenchmen Roberto Negro and Manu Codjia, thanks to which the saxophonist is crossing the Atlantic to join forces with Americans Joe Martin, Nasheet Waits and Theo Croker. His most ambitious project to date, without a doubt.
