Lorenzo Buffa is an Italian double bass player and composer, passionate about the jazz tradition and open to contemporary influences. With an eclectic background and a career spanning from Milan to Amsterdam, "Conversational Skills", the first album recorded under his own name, marks a significant step in his musical evolution. The musical dialogue extends to 8 original tracks, in which Buffa collaborates with talented musicians.

Lorenzo Buffa
was born in the north of Italy, a place surrounded by mountains and vineyards, in a small city called Biella.

Having been inspired by the Nocturnes of Chopin his uncle would play for him, and by a mother that would enchant him with the beautiful sound of choirs, he began his musical career at the age of 13 at a local music school called “Sonoria”, under the attentive guide of his first mentor Francesco Beccaro, and dwelled into the studies of the Electric Bass.

The introduction to Jazz came soon after his first couple of years of studying. In 2005, he was chosen to be part of the “Young Jazz Puzzle for Europe”, that took place at the Cultural Center “Marius Staquet” in the city of Mouscron, Belgium.

Having become clear that he wanted to continues his studies of Jazz music, he began the study the Double Bass, through the thorough guide of Luca Bertinaria.

He moved to Milan in 2010 to continue his education under the guidance of Riccardo Fioravanti and, after a series of experiences abroad between New York, Bruxelles and and other European cities, he decided to move to Amsterdam, where he would continues his studies and get a Master’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Along his musical career, Lorenzo won several awards such as: Chicco Bettinardi Award, Conad Jazz Contest, European Jazz Contest and qualified for the semifinals at the Keep an Eye Competition.

The debut album “Conversational Skills” will be released on the April 26th 2024.

Alongside his career as a bass player, Lorenzo also started a solo project where he performs with electronics, double bass and voice. The project is named: “IAMLRNZ”.
