Dies ist das zweite Album von Robert Markhams Gesamtaufnahme der Klavierwerke von Franz Xaver Mozart. Der junge Mozart, der bei Salieri und Hummel studierte, war wie sein Vater Wolfgang Amadeus Komponist und Pianist, stand aber unweigerlich unter dem Druck großer Erwartungen. Dieses Album enthält sein umfangreichstes Werk für Soloklavier, die Klaviersonate in G-Dur, ein selbstbewusstes, charakteristisches Stück, das Tanz und Schwung in Einklang bringt. Sein virtuosestes Werk ist die überschwängliche „Fantasie über ein russisches Lied“ und ein Krakowiak, während seine schelmischen Variationen über ein russisches Thema und die Variationen über den „Don Giovanni“ seines Vaters Franz Xavers große Begabung für Ausarbeitung und Verspieltheit veranschaulichen. Dr. Robert Markham
pursues a busy career as a performer and teacher. After studying with Heather Slade-Lipkin at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, he entered the Juilliard School, New York at the age of 17, studying piano with renowned Russian pianist and pedagogue Oxana Yablonskaya and collaborative piano with Samuel Sanders, accompanist to many leading performers, including Itzhak Perlman. He graduated from Juilliard with the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts.
He has won numerous prizes at major international competitions, and was a finalist at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, and piano class winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition.
He performs extensively as soloist and chamber player, having appeared in Great Britain, the United States, Canada, Brazil, France, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Russia, Israel, turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
He regularly appears as a member of Trio Severn at venues and festivals around the UK, and also appears with members of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in the Centre Stage concert series in Birmingham. His collaborative recordings include a CD of Kenneth Leighton’s works for piano and strings with the Edinburgh String Quartet, works for piano four hands by Schubert with pianist John Humphreys, and works for cello and piano with cellist Philip Daish-Handy.
Robert Markham has given masterclasses in the UK, Germany and Brazil. Robert Markham is currently Senior Tutor in Piano at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where his students have a record of success within and beyond the institution, and include Lauren Zhang, first prize winner of the Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists and BBC Young Musician 2018.
