Info for My Life 4Hunnid

Multi-platinum Bompton-based rapper YG officially reveals October 2nd as as the in-store date for MY 4HUNNID LIFE, his eagerly awaited fifth studio album on Def Jam Recordings. Released today in anticipation of the album is the video for “Equinox” featuring Day Sulan, the L.A. rapper signed to YG’s 4HUNNID label. Day Sulan won attention last year for her feature on “Her Story,” a track from YG’s album, 4Real 4Real which marked his fourth consecutive Top 10 debut on Billboard 200 album chart.

“This album was highly influenced by Tupac. This is as far as the space I’m in and what I’m dealing with in life — he went through a lot of the stuff that I’m dealing with right now, and he was making records about it, and just the tone and the cadence of how he was coming up. I was playing with a lot of that type of sway of Tupac.”

The success of 4Real 4Real built on the extraordinary year that YG enjoyed in 2018, centering on his RIAA gold Top 5 album, Stay Dangerous (August). The LP was buoyed by “Big Bank” featuring Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz and Big Sean, one of the biggest singles of YG’s career, a triple-platinum #1 smash with over 197 million YouTube views to date. Stay Dangerous followed-up YG’s critically acclaimed Still Brazy (2016), hailed by the New York Times as “an artisanal, proletarian Los Angeles gangster rap record.” My Krazy Life ranked by Complex at #1, “a modern gangsta rap classic… a gust of fresh air… In an era when most albums feel rushed, My Krazy Life sounds like it was a lifetime in the making.” My Krazy Life contained the Top 5 Rap phenom “My N***a” featuring Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan (4x-platinum with over 332 million YouTube views); and the landmark Top 5 double-platinum “Who Do You Love?” featuring Drake (over 176 million YouTube views).

YG
Wielding a forceful and slightly raspy voice ideally suited for the prowling basslines that support many of his best-known tracks, YG has achieved and sustained commercial success throughout the 2010s without ever being overtly pop. The "brazy" yet "bool" West Coast rapper first achieved Hot 100 status with the players anthem "Toot It and Boot It" (2010) and has continually reaffirmed his commercial appeal with the Top Ten albums My Krazy Life (2014), Still Brazy (2016), and Stay Dangerous (2018), which were followed by 4REAL 4REAL (2019). The four albums, highlighted by multi-platinum hits such as "My N*gga," "Who Do You Love?," and "Big Bank," have been released through Def Jam.

The Compton, California native, born Keenon Jackson, issued his first two mixtapes in 2009 and 2010, a few years after he became a Blood. The latter tape featured "Toot It and Boot It," a low-profile collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign that reached number 67 after it was licensed to Def Jam for commercial release. YG continued to favor the mixtape format, then made his Def Jam album debut in March 2014 with My Krazy Life. Supported with the multi-platinum DJ Mustard productions "My N*gga" (aka "My Hitta," featuring Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan) and "Who Do You Love?" (featuring Drake), the album debuted at number two on its way to platinum status itself. A short film and accompanying soundtrack, Blame It on the Streets, was out by the end of the year. Anchored by another platinum single, "Why You Always Hatin'?" (with Drake and Kamaiyah), as well as the anti-Donald Trump protest track "FDT" (featuring Nipsey Hussle), YG's second proper album, Still Brazy, followed in June 2016 and debuted at number six.

The rapper's third Def Jam set was previewed through another Mustard collaboration, "Big Bank," which also featured 2 Chainz, Big Sean, and Nicki Minaj. The track went Top 15 R&B/hip-hop -- and eventually went 16 pop -- ahead of the August 2018 arrival of Stay Dangerous. The album was YG's third straight Top Ten album, entering the Billboard 200 at number five a few weeks before the rapper appeared in the film White Boy Rick. Within a year, Stay Dangerous was certified gold, while "Big Bank" became YG's third multi-platinum headlining single. 4REAL 4REAL, the rapper's fourth LP for Def Jam, followed in May 2019. The album climbed to number seven in Billboard's rap charts. In February of 2020, YG offered up new single "Konklusions" featuring guest vocalist Kehlani. (Andy Kellman, AMG)
