"Stax Christmas" versammelt 12 Weihnachtsklassiker von den legendären Stax Records, unter anderem von Isaac Hayes (»The Mistletoe and Me«), The Staple Singers (»Who Took the Merry Out of Christmas«), Rufus Thomas (»I'll Be Your Santa Baby«) und Albert King (»Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin«). Ebenfalls enthalten ist ein alternativer Mix von »Merry Christmas Baby« von Otis Redding und eine neu entdeckte Version des Klassikers »Blue Christmas«, gesungen von der Stax-Künstlerin Carla Thomas.
Stax Records, heute im Besitz von Concord, wurde 1957 von Jim Stewart in Memphis, Tennessee, gegründet. Von einem kleinen, familiengeführten Unternehmen entwickelte sich Stax zu einem der einflussreichsten Plattenlabels der Welt. Es trug zur Entstehung des »Memphis Sound« bei und begründete die Karrieren von Ikonen wie Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. & The M.G.'s, den Staple Singers, Sam & Dave, Rufus und Carla Thomas, The Bar-Kays und Dutzenden anderer Künstler, die die Popkultur für immer veränderten. Insgesamt platzierte Stax 167 Hits in den Top 100 des Pop und 243 Hits in den Top 100 des R&B.
