Info for Giuseppe Verdi: I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata
Ivan Repusic continues his successful cycle of early masterpieces by the Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi and once again conducts the Münchner Rundfunkorchester in Verdi's "I Lombardi alla prima crociata" (The Lombards on the First Crusade). The opera had its world premiere on 11 February 1843 at Milan's Teatro alla Scala. It was another great success for the young composer and was soon put back on the Scala schedule. The opera spread rapidly throughout Europe and was first given in New York in 1847. Today it is rarely heard or seen.
The concert performance (in the original Italian) at Munich's Prinzregententheater brought unanimous cheers from the audience. Ivan Repušić's commitment to the early Verdi operas deserves high regard. These "I Lombardi" are also a true theatre Verdi: vital and powerful, fiery and highly lively.
