Info for Between Spheres
After the ICMA award-winning audite debut album, the Boreas Quartet Bremen focuses on the sound poetry of the recorder consort with Between Spheres: music of the late Renaissance by Alessandro Poglietti is heard closely intertwined with the highly expressive suspensions of Markus Schönewolf. With an instrumentarium of over 40 flutes, the Boreas Quartett Bremen invites you on a journey between the sound spheres of early and new music.
Between Spheres focuses on the sound poetry of the recorder consort. Music of the 17th century interlocks with a contemporary cycle dedicated to the quartet. Both musical spheres have a poetics that captivates the ear and leaves listeners wondering: Where might one epoch end and the other begin?
The Boreas Quartett Bremen presents a magical sound of the flute ensemble that switches between worlds of expression with virtuosity: It sounds like birdsong in Poglietti's Rossignolo and Schönewolf's Unter Kranichen, hypnotically occupied with low flutes in the polyphonic Ricercari of the late Renaissance, agile and highly virtuosic in fugue compositions of both epochs. Closely interwoven, the pieces merge and float between the spheres - "between spheres".
The recording is the second release of the Boreas Quartet Bremen after the ICMA award-winning album Basevi Codex from 2022.
Boreas Quartett Bremen
Boreas Quartett Bremen
Boreas, god of the north wind, gave the recorder quartet its name: Wind, air, and breath bring the recorders to resound. The Boreas Quartett Bremen plays music from the heyday of the consort. An evening with BQB immerses you in the rich full sound of the consort, while music of the 20th and 21st century adds a contemporary dimension. The musicians play over 40 flutes of different sizes and construction, including a twelve part Renaissance consort.
Jin-Ju Baek, Elisabeth Champollion, Julia Fritz and Luise Manske studied at the Akademie für Alte Musik in Bremen. The quartet has played concerts in Germany, Austria, The Netzerlands, Czech Republic, in Switzerland, Italy, in South Korea and at the International Recorder Festival in Taiwan.
Prizes and Scholarships:
In 2012 the quartet won first prize and audience prize of the Early Music competition run by Saarland radio and the Fritz-Neumeyer-Akademie in Saarbrücken, Germany.
In the final round of the German National Music Competition (Deutscher Musikwettbewerb) in 2014 they were awarded a scholarship including concert management for the season 2015/16.
The quartet is financially supported by the foundation "Laudate, Cantate" and the Heinz-Peter und Annelotte-Koch foundation, both located in Bremen, Germany.
