Info for Orlando Gibbons: The Silver Swan
The internationally recognized "The Spirit of Gambo" brings a world of forgotten sounds into life again. The exquisite tonal quality, the balance between instruments, and the richness of musical content captivate any listener, giving them the feeling of being directly transported back in time and leaving them deeply rewarded.
Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) was one of the most important and respected English musicians of his time, both as a virtuoso on keyboard instruments and even more so as a composer. His polyphonic vocal music works in particular achieved great fame early on. Compared to his sacred compositions, the amount of secular vocal music is rather small. His only book of madrigals was published in 1612. Gibbons' madrigals are characterised by the use of polyphonic compositional style and some of the compositions in "Madrigals and Mottets" can be reasonably understood as solo singing with viol accompaniment. One of these "songs" is the well-known piece "The silver swan".
