Info for Retrospection: Organ Works of the 16th & 17th Century

Once again we embark upon an exciting path of music history: Retrospection is the name of the new CD, which Krzysztof Urbaniak dedicates to organ music of the 16th and 17th Century. The programme rages from very rarely played pieces taken from Polish organ tablatures to works of more familiar composers such as Hans Leo Hassler, Jacob Froberger and Matthias Weckmann.

This repertoire was chosen for an instrument which could not be more authentic: the Danish Castle Sønderborg’s Renaissance organ which was built in 1570 and is currently one of the oldest playable organs in the whole of Europe. With its in today’s eyes very unusual specification, fascinating sounds can be produced, which on modern instruments seem to have almost disappeared into oblivion.

Krzysztof Urbaniak, who has already with his first PASCHENrecords CD “Danziger Barock II” demonstrated his extremely graceful and detailed playing, proverbially “pulls out all the stops” and presents a wealth of sounds which not only friends of the organ shouldn’t miss...
