Info for Tristan & Isolde: An orchestral Passion
This new recording from the Staatskapelle Weimar under Hansjorg Albrecht presents a rarely heard compilation of Richard Wagner’s themes from Tristan und Isolde, arranged for orchestra by Henk de Vlieger (b. 1953). This is Hansjorg Albrecht's follow-up Wagner recording to his album Der Ring Ohne Worte (OC1872). The Staatkapelle Weimar dates back to 1491, making it one of the oldest orchestras in the world, and one that is more than familiar with the works of Richard Wagner.
Staatskapelle Weimar
Hansjörg Albrecht, conductor
Hansjörg Albrecht
is one of the few artists who are regularly present internationally both as a conductor and as a concert organist. His inspiration is the Anglo-American conductor, concert organist, arranger and sound magician Leopold Stokowski.
As a conductor, he is internationally regarded as a specialist in historically informed playing, but consistently goes his own way - between archive and new creation, with an extensive repertoire from Bach to Messiaen and a soft spot for forgotten composers such as Hans Rott, Walter Braunfels and Mieczysław Weinberg, as well as world premieres.
With his organ transcriptions, he established himself as a specialist among the virtuosos of his instrument.
Albrecht is Artistic Director of the Munich Bach Choir & Bach Orchestra, permanent guest conductor of the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Choir Hamburg and since 2022 Principal Guest Conductor at the Teatro Petruzzelli Bari, Italy's fourth largest opera house. He has also worked for many years with the San Carlo Opera House in Naples, the Russian Chamber Orchestra in Moscow and the Staatskapelle Weimar.
He gives concerts in the world's major music centres and works regularly with internationally renowned artists and orchestras - currently with Chen Reiss, Reinhold Friedrich, Lucas & Arthur Jussen, Christian Gerhaher, Mikhail Pletnev and Andrea Lucchesini, the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Halle, the Dresden Kapellsolisten, the Slovenian National Orchestra Ljubljana and the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra. He conducts opera productions in Naples and Dubai, among other places, as well as ballet projects with the dance companies of Marguerite Donlon and Boris Eifman.
His current projects include the world premiere of Marco Tutino's organ concerto "The Dreaming Lion" as soloist with the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra at the Muscat Opera House, the large-scale TONALi dance project "Courage to Utopia" in combination with French baroque music at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the live recording of Richard Wagner's "Tristan & Isolde - An orchestral Passion" with the Staatskapelle Weimar.
Hansjörg Albrecht is a member of the board of directors of the Neue Bach-Gesellschaft Leipzig and artistic director of the International Online Organ Festival (IOOF), which will be held worldwide for the first time in 2022 under the patronage of UNESCO.
He has released over 30 CDs as a conductor and organist on the Oehms Classics label. Among other awards, he was nominated for the GRAMMY Award in 2013. By 2024, Anton Bruckner's 200th birthday, he will realise the first complete recording of all Bruckner symphonies as organ transcriptions at original venues such as St. Florian, Linz, London, Munich, Vienna, Paris, Lucerne, Leipzig and Prague.
