Info for Barely Blue

In an exciting announcement that has country music fans buzzing, the GRAMMY®-nominated trio Midland revealed their latest project, Barely Blue. This eight-song album delves deep into themes of loneliness, masculinity, and the resilience needed to navigate heartache. The evocative collection conjures images of near-empty bars and heat waves shimmering across the blacktop, capturing the essence of love, loss, and moving forward with a generous spirit. But fans do not have to wait until the September 20th release date, the charismatic trio has gifted fans a new single off the upcoming project.

Recorded with the illustrious 9x GRAMMY winner Dave Cobb at Georgia Mae Studios in Savannah, GA, and mixed at Apex Sound in Burbank, CA, Barely Blue showcases the trio's raw and heartfelt artistry. Lead singer/guitarist Mark Wystrach, bassist/vocalist Cameron Duddy, and guitarist/vocalist Jess Carson embrace a space where solitude is acknowledged, life goes on, and the soulful twang of steel guitars ties it all together.

“We knew we wanted to go somewhere else,” Cameron Duddy adds about the creation of Barely Blue in a statement to the press. “We are all big believers in a certain time and place, a sense of classic country that comes from roadhouses and bad coffee, miles and miles and miles on the road – and the idea that, even though we’re all happy, love and life falls apart, but that doesn’t mean you have to, too. When we were writing these songs, it was a trip into all the things in country music we love. You don’t hear much of this kind of unfiltered, hard stuff that comes with the great guitar sounds, the deep harmonies and shuffles you can tuck into. But that’s the essence of what Midland is – and Dave Cobb brought a new altitude to our sound.”

With Barely Blue, Midland invites us to explore the depths of heartache and the strength required to overcome it, all while celebrating the enduring spirit of country music. As the first notes of “Lucky Sometimes” hit the airwaves, it's clear that this album is set to be a memorable chapter in Midland's remarkable journey.

Midland

Midland
Hailing from Dripping Springs, TX lead vocalist Mark Wystrach fronts Midland’s rich sound that is rounded out with lead guitarist Jess Carson and bass player Cameron Duddy. Rooted in tradition in both sound and style, the trio initially garnered attention playing clubs in the region. Their critically-acclaimed sophomore album LET IT ROLL (Big Machine Records) earned the No. 1 position on Billboard’s Top Country Album Sales chart upon release as lead single “Mr. Lonely” nears the Top 20 at Country radio. Receiving praise from outlets such as Rolling Stone, Variety, NPR and Entertainment Weekly among others, the trio is also nominated for New Artist and Vocal Group of the Year at the CMA Awards in November. Wystrach, Carson and Duddy all played an integral role in writing the 14-track album with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. The album was produced by Dann Huff, McAnally and Osborne and was a follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut album, ON THE ROCKS (Big Machine Records). Launching in 2017 with rave reviews, ON THE ROCKS was declared “the year’s best Country album” by Washington Post. Their DOUBLE PLATINUM-certified chart-topping debut “Drinkin’ Problem,” which offers an intentional nod to Country music reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s, earned the band their first GRAMMY® Awards nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Midland was also named New Vocal Group of the Year at the 2018 ACM Awards. Midland is currently on the road for their global headlining LET IT ROLL TOUR through the rest of 2019.
