Info for Over the Moon
Singer and pianist Raphael Jost considers himself a modern-day crooner. He surprises listeners with his powerful, warm voice, navigating effortlessly between jazz and pop. His songs are snapshots from his own life—catchy and always presented with a sophisticated touch. At the same time, Jost—who received the Swiss Jazz Award for his debut album—loves performing swinging standards, channeling the spirit of his idols from the swing tradition, such as Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander, and Ahmad Jamal, through his piano playing.
Writing for a string orchestra has long been a cherished dream of Raphael Jost’s. With his latest album, *Over The Moon*, he has finally brought that dream to life. The core ensemble—featuring outstanding soloists Bastien Rieser (trumpet) and Alex Hendriksen (saxophone), Jost’s long-time musical partner Raphael Walser (double bass), and London-based drummer Luke Tomlinson—is joined by ten string players, who lend the music both a rich, full-bodied sound and an intimate quality.
In collaboration with British arranger Callum Au—known for his work with artists like Jamie Cullum and Michael Bublé—Jost has crafted a program that truly captivates its audience. The lush, multifaceted sound of the strings adds a new sonic dimension to Jost’s music—one that reaches all the way to the moon and back.

Raphael Jost
Seit April 2018 lebt Jost in Winterthur.
