Info for when all is said and done
Amie Blu’s debut album, when is all and done, is frank, unassuming yet still somehow richly assured introduction to a remarkable British talent. This is a record drenched in feeling, startlingly capturing love, loss, depression and human connection. Throughout, Amie’s diary-like candour and stop-in-your-tracks vocals are set to a genre-wide palette that’s as fluid – Dijon, Mk.gee – as it is musically sophisticated. Ultimately, when all is said and done is themed around the relationship with the self: a shelter from the storm (inner and outer) that’s vividly rendered in the album’s surreal artwork.
Introducing her debut album, Amie Blu writes: “I struggle to find anything positive in my life and feel this constant weight mentally but also physically. I want to get better and I’m trying to get better, but despite all my efforts, I often still feel the same. This album is such an honest depiction of how I feel and how so many other people feel who struggle with depression.”
That drive to keep going – and follow your instincts – has been apparent in Amie Blu’s growth to date. Born of French heritage in South East London, the 22 year old cut her teeth in community projects growing up – ArtsTrain, Flames Collective – before hustling through music in jobs ranging from youth charities to A&R and publishing (“in every job interview I was clear – I’m never gonna respond to anything else outside of my working hours because it’s not my priority. I’m gonna be an artist”). Having developed her sound across a string of early EPs, a turning point proved to be 2024 mixtape how we lose. Introspective but searingly honest, songs like ‘everything about her’ showed a poetic brand of realism – and accomplished, alternative, soundscapes – way beyond Amie Blu’s years.
when all is said and done has been previewed by a series of acclaimed tracks in 2025. The lo-fi, scuzzy and SZA-approved recent single ‘shadow’ upends a toxic love song to address that aspirational version of the self instead, who you must make peace with. ‘missing everything’, meanwhile, melds upbeat, seemingly feel-good alt-pop with deceptively poignant lyrics about disassociation, and the everyday struggle to be present. Amie Blu’s album-era kicked off with the soaring, yacht-rock singalong ‘swimming in pity’, that emotional stasis where sorrow intersects with self-sabotage. Recorded by Amie and friends in tactile, DIY fashion, the album provides glimpses of light, and even a bit of gallows humour, amidst the dark. Far from an exploration of endings, when all is said and done is the start of something truly special from Amie Blu.
