Info for Vivantes (Live)
Vivantes brings together the Katok Ensemble, led by Paul Serri, and the Belgian composer Patrick Leterme for a programme conceived at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi. Spanning works by Maurice Ravel and Guillaume Lekeu, alongside a new composition for string quintet - Racines, Ailes, Brises - the music explores an organic connection to life, nourished by immersion in nature and the resonance of texts by George Sand, Romain Gary and Vinciane Despret. Leterme deploys a particularly precise style of composition, whose deliberate fragility transforms sensitivity itself into a form of resistance.
Katok Ensemble
Katok Ensemble
Founded in 2019 by Paul Serri, the Katok Ensemble brings together musicians who share a passion for chamber music, with the aim of making the genre accessible to a wide audience and dispelling the notion that one needs to be a connoisseur to appreciate it.
The Katok Ensemble comprises Paul Serri, Camille Fonteneau, Schuichi Okada, Magdalena Sypniewski, and David Petrilk (violins); Léa Hennino, Anna Sypniewski, and Issey Nadaud (violas); and Justine Metral, Rafael Cumont Vioque, Julie Sévilla-Fraysse, and Volodia Van Keulen (cellos).
Its associated artists include Corentin Apparailly (composer) and Hugo Mallon (stage director).
The musicians are accomplished chamber artists, each with a unique and rigorous artistic background and approach.
The Katok Ensemble seeks to forge a collective identity while preserving and harmonizing the individuality of each member.
Its flexible, variable-size format allows for an expansive repertoire—ranging from the smallest chamber music form (the duo) to the largest (the dectet)—with a particular focus on the string sextet repertoire.
This flexibility enables the ensemble to combine two concepts that are often at odds: long-term artistic development and adaptability.
In the spirit of democratizing chamber music and fostering new connections with audiences, the Katok Ensemble has launched a chamber music festival in the Ardèche region: the Katok Festival.
The Katok Ensemble also collaborates with other art forms, such as theater and cinema. Notably, the creation of a "concert-performance" in collaboration with Hugo Mallon—*Les saisons*—which unfolds around the novel by Maurice Pons.
