Info for Ferdinand Thieriot: Chamber Music, Vol. 2

The Hamburg-born Ferdinand Thieriot (1838–1919) not only shared a teacher – Eduard Marxsen – with Brahms; both composers use a very similar musical language, one which is richly melodic and effortlessly contrapuntal. The musicologist Wilhelm Altmann wrote that ‘Thieriot’s chamber music is without exception noble and pure. He writes with perfect command of form and expression’ – as the works on this second Toccata Classics volume prove, in their exquisite balance of depth and beauty.

Hamburg Chamber Players
The Hamburg Chamber Players ensemble presents chamber music with the unique concept of flexible line-up. Ian Mardon (violin), Julia Mensching (viola), Rolf Herbrechtsmeyer (cello) and Yuko Hirose (piano) have been playing together since 1999 and give numerous concerts every year throughout Germany and in German-speaking countries.

The four musicians perform in duo, trio and quartet formations; In order to be able to cover a wider range of chamber music works, they are happy to invite renowned guests to play together.

The concerts are designed to be varied: both through the size of the line-up in different programs and through varying line-ups within the program.

At their concerts, listeners are guided through the evening based on a thematic concept, with the musicians giving brief insights into the historical background of the compositions and the lives of the composers.
