Recorded with his longtime producer Byron Gallimore, Tim McGraw's 12th studio album Two Lanes of Freedom is equal parts easy-going feel-good tracks, romantic love songs and thoughtful tracks about life's big themes. The nostalgic daydream of "One of Those Nights" with its U2-esque guitars is contrasted with the humor and cheerfulness of "Southern Girl" and the slightly hungover, Beatles-esque "Mexicoma". McGraw emphasizes, however, that the sonic and conceptual backbone of the album was the anthemic title track:

"When we recorded Two Lanes of Freedom, this freshness came across, this sort of Irish, Gaelic drive, the song paints such a hazy, summery picture over which the whole album revealed itself to me," says Faith Hill's husband.

McGraw reaches emotional depths on songs like "Number 37405": the lament of a prisoner. To end with guest vocals from Taylor Swift and guitar licks from Keith Urban on the breezy - if complex - "Highway Don't Care".

The deluxe edition of "Two Lanes of Freedom" comes with four additional bonus tracks.
