Info for Ludwig van Beethoven: String Trios Op. 8, Op. 9 No. 1 & Op. 9 No. 3
The Beethoven String Trio is made up of Czech musicians Pavel HŮLA, primarius of the Kocian Quartet, conductor and professor of chamber music at the Prague Academy (AMU), Josef KLUSOŇ and Michal KAŇKA, respectively violist and cellist of the famous Pražák Quartet. After having played together for many years, they decided to formalize their joint experience. Their reference to Beethoven indicates that they concentrate resolutely on music from the 19th century up to the present day, the sole exception being their devotion to Mozart’s well-known Divertimento K 563 and the Beethoven string trios masterworks.
When Ludwig van Beethoven settled permanently in Vienna in 1792, it was already the second attempt to make his fortune in this city. He had actually wanted to study with Mozart in Vienna in 1787, but the sudden death of Beethoven's mother prevented a longer-term stay. So in 1792 - Mozart had already died - he came to study with Haydn. His String Trios op. 9 were composed in 1797/98 and bear witness to Beethoven's genius, which was already pronounced at this early stage. His ingenuity gives rise to melodic fireworks and daring harmonies, and his ability to unite the three instruments into a coherent ensemble gives us an idea of the grandeur of his quartets even in these rarely heard works.
