Info for The County Star
Irish Indie Soul maestro Kean Kavanagh is coming in hot for 2025 with undoubtedly one of the albums of the year, this coming of age record brings out all the best flavours of Keans influences from his early upbringing in Rural Ireland, and his Americana influence having been born in Houston, Texas and grown up in Portlaoise in Ireland’s midlands - this record merges the two worlds in a totally unique and effortlessly cool way, incredible songwriting and uplifting melodies that leave you soaring. Mixing Irish folk, soul, blues and indie rock ‘n’ roll, this album packs it all.
Having previously toured with Maverick Sabre, Vampire Weekend and shared stages with Lana Del Ray, and played a plethora of great festivals like Electric Picnic, Primavera and All Together Now, Kean is exploring a whole new world with his developed indie rock show backed by his electrifying band and looking to take over.
Kean has been championed by the likes of The Face, DAZED, Fader, i-D, BBC Radio1, 6 Music and more, XL Recordings founder Richard Russell featured him on his ‘Everything Is Recorded’ album project, alongside the likes of Maria Somerville (4AD), Ghostface Killa (Wu-Tang Clan) and Berwyn, and this new album is set to start a whole new fire for Kean.
For fans of Mk. Gee, King Krule, The Mary Wallopers, MJ Lenderman, Alex G.
Kean Kavanagh
Kean Kavanagh
is a story-teller with a strong imagination who set out his stall as both a singer-songwriter and world creator in 2020, with the release of his acclaimed project Dog Person. In what turned out to be a big year for him, 2020 also saw Kean make an appearance on the Everything Is Recorded project FRIDAY FOREVER, (curated by Richard Russell of XL Recordings) alongside Aitch, Flohio, Maria Somerville, Ghostface Killah and others, aligning himself with a tastemaker and hotly tipped selection of musical peers.
Alongside his own rise, Soft Boy Records, founded in 2015, morphed into a cultural behemoth of its own, gripping the Irish music scene and becoming subject of a Boiler Room documentary about the label and collective. With his co-founder Kojaque, Kean has found himself sharing stages with names such as Loyle Carner and Lana Del Ray, performing solo-slots opening for Maverick Sabre and Vampire Weekend, currently settled in London, Kean’s career leaves a strong mark and highlights his unique place in Irish music.
