Info for Dedication (Remastered)

Tribe were an uptempo 70s funk outfit with a groove that might have been disco -- but which had a bit more complicated rhythms, and a tight ensemble sound that drove the main groove over the top in a way that never would have held big on a pedestrian dance floor. This record features some wonderful numbers by the group -- like the instrumental "Vulcan Voyage", which has a sweeping jazzy groove, or the great electric funk cut "Baby Feet". Other tracks include "Celebrate Your Love", "Share It", and "Ain't Nothing But A Party".

Superb rare independent funk and soul album originally released in the USA in 1977 issued for the first time ever on Soul Jazz Records. This lost album is a classic, packed full of spaced-out funk, soul, boogie, jazz-funk and more.

In similar vein to groups such as Mandrill, Jimmy Castor Bunch, The Blackbyrds, Pleasure and Kool and the Gang, Tribe blends together elements of funk, jazz, rock, latin and soul music into a unique sound (their first album was aptly named ‘Ethnic Stew’).

This album includes the much sought after 'Vulcan Voyage' which featured on our first Space Funk collection and has been out-of-print for an incredible 45 years!

Tribe was the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Earl J Foster, who put together the band along with producer Big Dee Ervin in 1974. Aside from Earl Foster the band features Clyde Jardine Powell on bass, Billy Soto on guitar, Jimmie A. Clapper on sax, Benjamin Taylor and Harold Clayton on vocals and Harold Davis on drums.

The group made three albums, but ‘Dedication’ remains their tour de force, a fantastic slice of spaced out funk, jazz and soul.
