Info for American Hero

Debut album release from half-Filipino, half-English artist, singer-songwriter, guitarist Towa Bird who's been co-signed by Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator, & more. She has received praise from Rolling Stone "Rising Pop Star to watch in 2024," NME Magazine "Towa Bird is writing a queer love story for the ages", Billboard "Towa Bird’s knack for building a pop song around a fiery guitar solo might be her greatest strength" & more. About the album, Towa says - “The title of American Hero is entirely ironic—I’m not American, and in my view I’m not heroic either. “These songs are me being completely honest about queer love and all its essence; there’s a lot of yearning and vulnerability and dealing with difficult emotions. I grew up listening to so many male-gazey love songs, and it was important to put something out into the world that felt like the music I wanted for myself when I was a kid.”

"From the terrifically bombastic opening of “Intro” to the chiming finish of “A Party” the entire album twists and turns between bursts of energetic pop-punk, frenzied expressions of lust, calmer reflective honesty, and sharply observed moments of uncomplicated joy. American Hero sounds very easy and fluid. There’s an embracing of life and its current thrills that Towa Bird is both experiencing and expressing, almost in real time. That love and exploration of being present and appreciated is infectious so it’s not difficult to imagine this album propelling her into a stratospheric orbit if she wants to travel there and embrace it wholeheartedly." Towa Bird

Towa Bird
Since taking up electric guitar at the age of 12, Towa Bird has come to rely on her chosen instrument as something of a second voice – an immediate vessel for raw self-expression, often manifested in the form of frenetic yet sublimely executed guitar solos. Now 25 years old, the Hong Kong-born, half-Filipino, half-English singer/songwriter is ready to unleash her own original music unto the world. She says of her music - “I grew up listening to so many male-gazey love songs, and it was important to put something out into the world that felt like the music I wanted for myself when I was a kid.” She’s able to do just that with her sound - one that strikes a rare balance of boldness with sensitivity, and is both wildly explosive while sharing a tender exploration of queerness, identity, and the complexities of love.

This album contains no booklet.
