Info for Mensa Rotunda

With the new work, Mensa rotunda, Andreas has continued with the credo of creating music that is "advanced, but accessible". He says one can expect music that lies somewhere between Stravinsky and Avicii. The title of the work is Latin for "The round table", an expression that can be a picture of the solitary thinking behind OJKOS.

Since the music should actually have been performed in 2021, Mensa Rotunda has already been recorded and on February 4, the first single from the album will come - Ridderrast. The rest of the album will be released in April, also this time on Odin records. Rotevatn has been responsible for production and mix, in addition, Lars Horntveth has been involved as a co-producer, and Eivind Helgerød was a guest behind the drums.

Andreas Rotevatn
Born in 1989 in Nordfjordeid on the west coast of Norway, currently living in Oslo.

Throughout my years as a professinal trombone player, I've had the pleasure to tour and record with some great bands and projects. Ranging from pop, via ska and electronic music to traditional jazz, with bands and projects like Cezinando, Ytre Suløens Jass-Ensemble, Razika, Gabrielle, Fieh & Euroradio Jazz Orchestra.

OJKOS
The ancient greek word οἶκος has three distinct but related meanings: the family, the property of the family, and the house. In a similar way, OJKOS is not just a collective of musicians, but also an environment within which the members can experiment freely and develop their collective musical vocabulary together. Each month during their regular season, a different member leads the ensemble through newly-written music before premiering the material at Nasjonal Jazzscene in Oslo. The orchestra is made up of 14 composers and performers sharing musical influences as broad as third stream jazz, European contemporary music, Norwegian folk music, and Nordic jazz.

OJKOS is the result of a collaboration between Østnorsk Jazzsenter, Nasjonal Jazzscene and a steering committee of five performer/composers.

This album contains no booklet.
