Info for Draumsyn

Draumsyn is the debut solo album of Norwegian hardanger fiddle player Anne Hytta. This album is a selection of her own compositions, rooted in the traditional Norwegian hardanger fiddle style, but truly unique and timeless in sound and expression.

The music of Draumsyn is a travel into an unknown world, a world of ancient wisdom, emotions and colours, closely connected to the nature of Norwegian mountain landscapes, valleys and streams. Fans of scandinavian music as well as open-minded listeners of any genre will be fascinated by this one-of-a-kind recording beyond common conventions of folk-, world-, or classical music.

Anne Hytta, solo hardanger fiddle

Anne Hytta
(born 1974) is a performer of the Hardanger Fiddle, a fiddle with sympathetic strings and its own repertoire of traditional tunes. Her background is deeply founded in the highly distinctive playing style of the repertoire of traditional tunes for the Hardanger fiddle, and from this basis she composes and performs her own music in the solo production Draumsyn, her trio Slagr or other ensembles.

She has created her own solo performance Draumsyn consisting of new compositions for hardanger fiddle, viola d’amore and medieval vielle. The music will be released on German label Carpe Diem January 2014.

Her trio Slagr has released four albums, two of them containing her own compositions, to exellent reviews in both German and Nordic press.

Anne Hytta is participating in various projects including folk musicians from around the world, and also plays the medieval vielle in the medieval music ensemble Kalenda Maya.

In 2006, 2007 and 2009 Anne Hytta received the Norwegian Government Grants for younger artists. She received the Norwegian Folk Music Award for best solo album in 2006 and 2011.
