Info for Suzanne un Jour

Sixty minutes of lute music with a feel, made up of works that are both lighthearted and profound. Pieces by the filled with beauty and elegance have corne down to us, and A\\ban Tixier, a professional lutenist, performs them with great generosity.

Here we are in the 21st century, and it has only been a few decades since the European lute regained its long-lost popularity. Playing the lute, once the prerogative of a few guitarists who were curious about once-prestigious instruments, has evolved over time, and can now be learned from childhood on. Alban Tixier is one of these "lute children" - lutenists who, rather than straying from their first instrument, were raised with the lute, as it were.

One might consider this a relatively unimportant development, because the lute is still a little-known instrument today. In my opinion, however, it builds a very special bridge between two eras. To explain this idea, it's easier to refer to language. One's mother tongue isn't merely the language in which one is the most technically proficient; it's the language we're most intimate with, and that goes beyond us, because it's rooted in childhood memories. When we learn a foreign tongue later in life, however gifted at languages we may be, it will probably always remain "foreign" to us.

Alban Tixier
is a 21-year-old lutenist. After learning the lute for 11 years with Jean-François Deruy in the early music department of the Roche-sur-Yon Music Conservatory, Alban pursued his lute studies in a number of master classes with Miguel Henry, while also perfecting his theorbo and Renaissance guitar skills. Then, after receiving his secondary school diploma, he decided to pursue a career in the arts.

Growing up in the environment of an artistic family, Alban began to perform on stage from an early age. His "career" as a musician began at the age of 10 when he appeared at the baroque music festival of Mont Blanc alongside his father, and accompanied a Renaissance ball for 80 dancers on his own. Next, along with his younger sister and father, he performed in the Tixier Trio, which gave numerous concerts at venues including the Royal Chateau of Blois, Meymac Abbey, and the Heritage Days at the Chabotterie. The occasion that left the strongest impression took place at the Rimay Nalanda of Karma-Ling Institute where, with Edgar Morin in attendance, a colloquium on "Humanism and mindfulness in 21st-century education" was held in 2015. At the age of 17 Alban went on to appear as a professional musician and actor in the Diapason troupe, which performed Jeux de Dames at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud. Since 2021 he has played the character of Jauffré Rudel, one of Eleonor of Aquitaine's troubadours, in Chant d'Ailes et Clerc de Plume at the Royal Abbey of Nieul sur l'Autise.

ALBAN TIXIER Alban also has also been performing as a soloist for the past few years. Memorable occasions have included concerts at the Clos Lucé in Amboise and the Priory of the Côte in Corrèze, and in the Vendée region, where he lives, and as part of colloquia organized by the CERA and events at the Château de Boisniard, among others.

He has also taken part in two recordings:

- La Fille du Verseau, with the harpist and singer Cécile Corbel, released in 2023.

- Utrique Fidelis, with Les Presences Ensemble, a baroque orchestra led by Miguel Henry.

Alban is considered to be the youngest professional lutenist to have made a solo album in the Pays de la Loire region.
