Taylor Ann Fleshman
International prize winner, Taylor Ann Fleshman, is the first prize winner of the 2018 Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy's concerto competition and second prize winner of the North International Music Competition in her age division. In January, she won second prize as a soloist at the National Society of Arts and Letters competition in Bloomington, Indiana and her chamber group, Duo XCIV, won second prize at the Ceren Necipoglu International Competition in Istanbul, Turkey. She is a two-time winner of the 3 Arts Competition and the Nippert Award. Other winnings include first prize in the College-Conservatory of Music’s Undergraduate Instrumental Competition, second prize in the Aspen Music Festival Harp Concerto Competition and in the CCM Concerto Competition, and third in the American Prize Competition. She has also been chosen as one of the national finalists in the Advanced Division of the American Harp Society and the Anne Adams competition. Along with competing, she has performed solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
Last January, she was the soloist with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra in Russia and recorded the Mosolov Harp Concerto on a Naxos label with them. The recording was released on Amazon and was the #1 sell in the symphony genre. After her performance in Moscow, she was invited to the PRISMA Festival as a guest soloist to perform the Mosolov Harp Concerto. In 2018, Taylor made her solo debut in Asia with the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra by performing on the Asian premiere of the double harp concerto “Passion of Angels” by Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich. As principal harp and assistant principal, Taylor has performed with many professional orchestras, including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. For the 2018-19 season, Taylor was the Associate Member with the esteemed Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Additionally, she has also performed as principal for musicals, operas, and ballets, including Jones’ The Fantasticks, Bernstein’s Candide, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Wagner’s Parsifal, and others. Taylor has also been featured on the Lyon and Healy's Harptacular Student Showcase in Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to her Classical studies, she has worked with other musical groups in various genres, such as Evanescence, Celtic Thunder, and Music City Hit-Makers, Betsey Wolfe from Broadway, and Tamara Wilson from the Metropolitan Opera. Taylor is featured on the 2016 Naxos recording with the National Orchestral Institute and a Grammy-Considered CD with the American Youth Harp Ensemble.
Taylor is currently based in New York where she holds the principal harp position for The Orchestra Now. She earned her Master of Music degree as the Jacob's School of Music Harp Fellow at Indiana University under harp professor, Florence Sitruk and her Bachelor's degree with the principal harpist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Gillian Benet Sella, at the College-Conservatory of Music on a full-tuition scholarship. She is a native of Kernersville, North Carolina.
