Biography Jakob Bänsch

Jakob Bänsch
grew up near Pforzheim and, as the child of professional classical musicians, began playing the trumpet at the age of eight.

In his initially classical career, he won, among other things, the 1st Federal Prize at Jugend Musiziert and played in the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Orchestra.

Since his early youth, Bänsch has also established himself as a jazz musician on the German scene. In 2018, he completed a junior degree in jazz trumpet at the HMdK Stuttgart and became a member of the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Jazz Orchestra.

In 2020, he became one of the youngest members of the Federal Jazz Orchestra since its founding. He was also a member of the WDR Young Composers Fellowship Program, Gutenberg Jazz Collective and the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy.

He has also worked closely with great musicians such as Nathan East, Emil Mangelsdorff, Wolfgang Haffner, Nils Landgren, Michael Abene and as a soloist with the WDR Big Band.

His latest project, the Jakob Bänsch Quartet, has existed since 2022. The classical roots are unmistakable in his compositions and create an unmistakable sound.

On April 28, 2023, Bänsch's debut album "Opening" was released on the "Jazzline" (DELTA Music) label, which caused a great stir in the German jazz scene.

He presented it with his quartet at the most famous German jazz festivals such as JazzOpen Stuttgart, Jazz Baltica and the Leverkusen Jazz Days.

"Opening" was awarded the German Jazz Prize in the "Debut Album of the Year" category in 2024.
