Info for Between Us
The story of the album Between Us begins with a digital gesture: a like on Instagram, a comment, a shared piece of music – this is how Jonas Hain and Robert Gromotka first met. At that time, they were at very different stages in their lives: Jonas, the young pianist and composer who, after his acclaimed debut "Solopiano," was still grappling with stage fright, and Robert, the seasoned multi-instrumentalist who, after years juggling studio, stage, and family, was in danger of losing himself. It was late 2023 when they met in person in Berlin at the opening of Robert's new studio – thus beginning a chapter that would change both their lives.
Music as a Mirror
The music of Between Us possesses a clarity and delicacy reminiscent of Chopin, Satie, or Debussy, yet is imbued with a modern, cinematic sound aesthetic. On this album, the musicians reflect all facets of an interpersonal relationship—trust, security, friendship, compromise, conflict, humor, intimacy, and much more. No two pieces are alike; each opens its own emotional space. At the heart of it all is the piano—sometimes solo, sometimes in dialogue with strings, occasionally enhanced by gentle electronic textures. It is not loud gestures, but quiet, urgent questions that permeate the pieces. Here, the music whispers in soft, fragile moments; there, it swells to orchestral grandeur. The music asks: What lies between us? And: what remains when the music fades? Perhaps it is a feeling that lingers long afterward—like after a conversation that raises more questions than it answers. Between Us is a musical mosaic of such conversations.
The album's creation is itself a chronicle of closeness and distance, friction and synergy. In the initial sessions, the musicians wrote songs like "Where We Begin," which musically traces their tentative getting-to-know-you phase, and "Silent Tears," which reflects the shared melancholy of both composers. A musical language emerged, characterized by trust and curiosity. Competition was absent—instead, a partnership grew in which both supported each other. Jonas found the courage to venture onto the stage through Robert's composure and experience. Robert, in turn, drew new creative energy from Jonas's drive and fresh perspective. The resulting pieces tell of humor and perfectionism, of intimacy, conflict, and reconciliation. Again and again, Jonas and Robert reached their limits—artistically and personally. But it was precisely from these tensions that something new grew: a musical mosaic that made the dynamics of human relationships audible.
The Reality of Shared Experience
The first concerts soon followed: initially in the intimate setting of Piano Day 2024, later on the grand stage of Berlin's Colosseum. It was here that the executives of the label Neue Meister took notice of the duo. A record deal was signed, work on their joint album began – and with it, the start of a new artistic journey. With Between Us, Jonas Hain and Robert Gromotka achieved something rare: they translated their digital resonance – millions of streams, playlists, followers – into the reality of shared experience.
Their planned tour in spring 2026 brings this idea to life: a concert evening that fosters intimacy—between musicians and audience, between the stories on stage and those that each individual brings to the hall. The album thus becomes a mirror for all those who find themselves grappling with questions of doubt, burden, or new beginnings. Listening to Between Us, one not only experiences the story of two musicians but also senses how music opens spaces for hope, fragility, and strength—thus transcending the sum of its individual voices.
Behind the Sounds: Two Biographies, One Dialogue
Jonas Hain is a seeker whose music is characterized by fragile beauty and melancholy. After years as a techno DJ and actor, he found his artistic home in the piano. His debut album, "Solopiano," debuted at number 1 on the iTunes Classical charts in 2018, and his album "Weißes Rauschen" (White Noise) was nominated for the Opus Klassik award in 2022. His pieces have been streamed millions of times worldwide. Jonas's path is marked by doubt and perfectionism, but also by a longing for lightness and immediacy—a longing that is reflected in his music.
Robert Gromotka is a master of reduction. After classical training on the flute and stints as a band musician, TV composer, and producer, he found his clear, melancholic voice at the piano. His pieces, such as "Dreamland" and "Little Life," have reached millions, and his music is described as honest, minimalist, and immediate. For Robert, perfection is what remains when everything superfluous has been eliminated – a credo that also shapes his collaboration with Jonas.

Robert Gromotka
is a Berlin-based composer, pianist, and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges classical tradition, improvisation, and contemporary sound. After years of worldwide touring with bands and orchestras, he founded Tarab Taksi, an ensemble blending oriental influences with modern improvisation. His solo piano music explores cinematic, deeply atmospheric soundscapes, often described as orchestral in scope—“a full orchestra under my fingertips.” Alongside his solo career, Robert collaborates with ensembles and artists across genres, continually expanding his repertoire from concert performance to cross-cultural projects. Through his piano-driven compositions, he creates music that resonates both emotionally and intellectually, reaching audiences beyond boundaries of style or medium.
Jonas Hain
is a 27-year-old Berlin based composer and pianist who released his debut 8 track album “Solopiano” back in April this year. After completing his degree at Abbey Road Institute, he moved his piano to a temporary studio, about an hour away from Berlin. Hain originally aimed to become a Techno-DJ, but his musical focus shifted, inspired by an internship with a film score composer. After that he started to concentrate on classical music. His new single “MMXV” has been released on 19 October 2018.
“To me, piano music is the purest form of creating music. A piece composed on the piano can go anywhere, but it doesn’t have to. Composing exclusively on the piano was a very liberating process for me. The possibilities are endless, but also limited to a certain extent. I started my musical path with electronic music, where you can absolutely lose yourself in sound design and mangling. Each parameter of the production can be manipulated endlessly. The piano is an incredibly expressive element, but it let’s you focus on the actual core of the music: The composition. This made me realise that recording music is nothing else than capturing a performance which can never be reproduced identically. It definitely helped me to further understand the value of imperfection in music.“ (Jonas Hain)
