For seven albums, we have known Robert Carl Blank as a chronicler of life in all its beauty and peculiarities. His simultaneously straightforward and melancholy view of everything human has made the Hamburg native an important representative of the German songwriter scene - and a frequent guest on German stages. Up to 100 concerts a year are on Robert's tour schedule.

Now the singer and guitarist is devoting himself to a very personal topic: the journey to himself. How does it actually work, coming to yourself and staying with yourself? On "Ungefähr Genau Hier", Robert searches for a home away from national borders and place name signs. "I feel like I've only just come out of disguise after so many years of songwriting and recording," he explains. "I don't know what triggered this unmasking, but I'm getting closer to myself with this record. Anyway, I hear a deep truth in each of these songs."

Firstly, this journey takes him into the past. Robert searches for traces of his childhood, remembers the fate of his parents' emigration, the frequent changes of home and the feeling of always being a stranger. "Is the wild west just a high-rise balcony? / Can I stay here? / Does everything start all over again?", he sings in the title track, whose warm longing is deeply moving. There is something melancholy in the song, in which there are far more questions than answers. You can sense the autobiographical, but you can also sense something universal. The feeling of being uprooted is shared by millions of refugees. And everyone who lives in this increasingly dissociated world knows it to some extent.

Robert Carl Blank's journey also takes him inside. Into the soul. Because that's where uprootedness takes root. For example in the song "Tief genug", in which the protagonist writes a letter and feels that he is struggling to get to the core he wants to describe: "I don't understand what's going on here / Everything is like a dream / I've never been so close / And yet I'm in the next room."

"... "Ungefähr genau hier." is a new masterpiece of German-language songwriter pop." (Sounds & Books)

"...The result is inspiring in every respect. Yes, "ungefähr genau hier." is a masterpiece of singer-songwriter pop and a candidate for the best of 2024." (Music Reviews)

"...his melodic and melancholic pieces definitely have a certain lightness. Not to say they float." (Musix)

"The German singer-songwriter album of the month!" (Westzeit)

"...'Ungefähr Genau Hier' astounds with thirteen compositions that, for the first time, turn more bluntly to the songwriter's own life." (Saitenkult)

"A real milestone for the Hamburg musician." (Lakewood Guitars)

Robert Carl Blank
Born near Frankfurt am Main, the guitarist and singer of Czech descent learnt his craft from the ground up. Equipped with a drum computer and an old cassette recorder, Robert Carl Blank began writing his first songs as a teenager. At the age of 16, he practised as musical director for various band projects and demonstrated sensitivity in arranging and interpreting songs he had written himself. A little later, the eager young artist began experimenting with digital sound sources and tape recorders (now in his own home studio).

After a year abroad in England, Robert Carl Blank worked as a creative element in a wide variety of rock and pop bands in the Rhine-Main region from 1996 onwards - from providing impulses to providing fundamental direction. During this time, he also gained a lot of experience in recording and arranging as a session guitarist on various pop productions. As a founding member of the band Boxer, he increasingly composed his own R'n'B, soul and pop material for the group from 1998 onwards. On the debut album "Stick Together", produced by Edo Zanki, the now accomplished songwriter delivered six of the band's twelve original compositions, which included guest appearances as opener for international stars such as Elton John, Whitney Houston and Eros Ramazotti. ...
